Highlights
Excellence in People’s Livelihood
Emphasizing the development of life sciences is a unique feature of our school. For a long time, our school has actively invested in the research and promotion of the founding purpose of life science knowledge, focusing on the six major needs of people’s livelihood, and taking the educational goal of making life “ethical, artistic, scientific, and productive.” We offer integrated courses that combine theory and practice to strengthen students’ planning, evaluation, and execution abilities, and further enhance the employment competitiveness of graduates. At the same time, in order to extend the scope of education, our school has established the Changhua Ershui Township Village Home Economics Extension Experimental Center, kindergartens, and elderly life and health research centers to strengthen the promotion of community education, preschool education, and lifelong learning universities, in order to implement the founding intention of “caring for the national economy and people’s livelihood.”
Leading in Design
Our school has achieved fruitful teaching results, and each of the five colleges has its own development characteristics. Among them, the College of Design has repeatedly won various indicative international design awards, such as the German iF, red dot, American IDEA, and Japan Nagoya Fashion Contest. In the 2007 National University Design Department Ranking Survey by “Global Views,” it was ranked first in the design practice category and was hailed as “Taiwan’s Harvard”; in the same year, it was also rated by the American “Business Week” as one of the world’s top 60 best design colleges;
In 2009, the Graduate Institute of Industrial Product Design was selected as one of the top 30 best design departments in the world; in 2011, our school won the Red Dot Design Award, ranking fifth among the best universities in the Asia-Pacific region in terms of cumulative rankings, and in 2012, it rose to third place. On May 2, 2012, the Economic Daily News reported on the German Red Dot Design Award and announced the world university regional rankings for the first time, with our school ranking first among private schools in Taiwan.
In addition, our school’s student works have also been invited to participate in the Milan International Furniture Fair in Italy, Tokyo Design Week in Japan, Beijing China International Fashion Week, Madrid Fashion Week in Spain, Milan International Design Exhibition in Italy, Spanish International Product Exhibition, German Rhine Design Festival, Saint-Étienne Design Biennale in France, Belgian Design Biennale, Parsons School of Design Faculty and Student Joint Exhibition in New York, USA, and Annecy Film Festival in France. The excellent competition performance and international exhibitions of the College of Design fully demonstrate the strength of our school in the international design professional field, and can be regarded as a model of domestic design teaching, laying a good foundation for our school to move towards the development vision of a high-quality practical teaching university in the Asia-Pacific region.

International Integration
Our school deeply understands the importance of internationalizing teaching and globalizing talents. Over the years, we have actively promoted various international exchanges and cooperation with foreign schools, and have achieved considerable results.
In addition, we also create a rich foreign language learning environment and resources to improve language learning effectiveness, so that students have the ability to connect with the world. Our school pioneered the precedent of domestic students going abroad to pursue dual degrees in 1994, and actively promoted academic exchanges with internationally renowned universities. Sister schools are located in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, Finland, Denmark, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and mainland China.
For example, the College of Design cooperates with the School of Architecture and Planning and the Media Lab of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States, the Graduate Institute of Urban Planning and Design of Harvard University in the United States, the Department of Architecture of the Tokyo Institute of Technology in Japan, the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in the United Kingdom, the London College of Fashion in the United Kingdom, and the Bournemouth Arts University to organize faculty and student “international workshops” to expand students’ international horizons. The College of Management has established international exchange programs and IMBA all-English courses in response to the trends of the times, combining the resources of international sister schools to provide students with diverse learning channels, in order to shape the school’s characteristic of students having international mobility.
On-the-Job Learning
Our school is characterized by practical teaching. Each department plans practical learning directions and main axes according to its professional characteristics, so that students have practical experience and literacy during their studies. For example, the College of Management and the College of Business and Information develop an on-the-job flexible learning system, seeking cooperation with the industry to introduce richer resources and technologies, expand students’ on-the-job flexible learning opportunities, and encourage teachers to establish industry-university cooperation with enterprises. The College of Human Ecology is committed to promoting professional internships in order to shorten the gap between theory and practice, increase practical experience, and complete the qualifications for relevant professional certifications.
In addition, in order to cultivate future interdisciplinary talents, our school actively integrates school resources and offers interdisciplinary programs oriented towards practice and employment, combining different professional fields, with the aim of cultivating all-round professional talents, enhancing workplace competitiveness, and establishing students’ differentiated unique competitive advantages, in order to implement the positioning of our school as a practical teaching university and strengthen the innovative and practical teaching characteristics of our school.

With the support of the E United Group, ISU’s curriculum planning and design adheres to the principle of “balancing theory and practice, emphasizing both teaching and experimentation,” making ISU one of the few comprehensive universities in Taiwan that combines theory and practice with industrial development potential.
In addition to the E United Group, ISU’s industry-academia collaboration extends to nearly 550 partners, spanning technology, electronics, hospitals, steel, and service industries such as catering, department stores, and hotels. The curriculum content closely aligns with industry needs.
Teaching Excellence, Internationally Accredited
In 2016, the College of Management, the International College, and the College of Tourism and Hospitality passed the AACSB international business education accreditation, making it the only university in the world to have 3 colleges accredited simultaneously.
All courses taught in English, internationalized campus
ISU demonstrates outstanding achievement in internationalization and global exchange. According to the 2017 Cheers Magazine ranking on the presence of international degree-seeking students, the University ranked second nationwide. International students from nearly 50 countries study on campus, with one out of every ten students coming from abroad, creating a vibrant international learning environment that fosters diverse perspectives and a global outlook.
In addition, students may apply for the Xuehai and Xuewen scholarships to participate in overseas study programs, or engage in exchange studies or degree programs at partner universities worldwide.

Introduction
Excellent geographical location
Our university is located in Kaohsiung City (at the border of the former Kaohsiung City and County), with convenient transportation. The prosperous industrial and commercial metropolis is suitable for industry-government-academia cooperation and grasping social trends, making practical teaching easier to implement and benefiting graduates’ career prospects. It is also located on the shore of the famous Chengcing Lake scenic area, enjoying the convenience of its location without the congestion and noise of the metropolis. Climbing the comprehensive building, the beautiful lake scenery can be seen, making one realize that Cheng Shiu is indeed a good place to cultivate talents. In addition, there are also important resources that can be shared and cooperated with, such as Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Chengcing Lake Baseball Field, and Yuanshan Hotel.
Emphasis on practical teaching
To fulfill the goals of vocational and technical education, our university requires students to create projects and learn from practice. In addition to participating in external competitions, each department holds project competitions every year, awarding certificates and prizes, and organizes graduation project exhibitions to reward outstanding students.
The school also actively encourages, assists, and rewards students for participating in skill assessments. The university currently has 16 categories and 26 levels of skill assessment venues, including 3 Class A technician testing venues, making it the school with the most skill assessment venues in the country. It regularly accepts commissions from government agencies to conduct skill assessments, demonstrating its emphasis on practice, with the aim of enabling students to receive training that meets workplace needs and to meet industry needs upon graduation.
Fruitful industry-academia cooperation
In order to maintain good interaction with the industry and enrich teachers’ practical experience, our university actively promotes industry-academia cooperation, with very fruitful results. It has been awarded the Excellent Unit Award for Industry-Academia Cooperation by the Chinese Institute of Engineers for 13 consecutive times from 1995 to 2020.
We also spare no effort in promoting the certification system, with remarkable results. The school has 16 categories and 26 levels of technician skill assessment venues, including 3 Class A venues, making it the leader among schools at all levels. For this reason, it has been recommended as one of the two school representatives on the Taiwan Provincial Technician Skill Assessment Committee who enthusiastically promote skill assessment.
Since 1999, it has been commissioned by the Council of Labor Affairs to handle the national skill assessment practical site evaluation business; held many skill assessment judge training sessions and seminars to cultivate skill assessment judges; and has repeatedly won the Excellent Unit Award for “Promoting Skill Assessment and Establishing a Vocational License System” from the Vocational Training Bureau of the Council of Labor Affairs, as well as awards for handling vocational training from government agencies at all levels.

Highlights
Excellent artistic and cultural environment
Our university was originally a junior college of industrial and commercial disciplines, without art-related departments, but aesthetic cultivation is not limited to teachers and students of art schools. Technology specialists need artistic cultivation to enhance their life interests and cultivate their temperament, taste, and noble sentiments. Based on this, the university established an art center at the beginning of its transformation into a college, specializing in the promotion of aesthetic education.
Its purpose is to specialize in promoting art education, organizing art and cultural activities, and promoting a humanistic and artistic atmosphere; and to provide resources to share with the community, and promote the establishment of educational partnerships between the university and the community. Its important facilities include professional art classrooms, music classrooms, a 150-ping art exhibition space, and a 150-ping outdoor green landscape exhibition space.
International-standard Ultra-Micro Research Technology Center
The center is a key professional laboratory of the university. Its dioxin/furan detection system for exhaust gases has been certified by both the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) and CNLA, making it the first certified unit in Taiwan. Additionally, it has successfully participated in an international inter-laboratory comparison organized by Umeå University in Sweden, establishing that its dioxin analysis capability meets international laboratory standards. The testing results from this center are recognized internationally.
With this certification, domestic companies no longer need to send samples abroad for testing, saving significant time and cost, while also improving the technical standards of testing in Taiwan. Since the university achieved certification, two additional private domestic laboratories have also obtained EPA certification, greatly enhancing Taiwan’s international competitiveness in dioxin/furan testing.
In the short- and medium-term, the center will collaborate with the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, as well as domestic academic institutions and hospitals, to develop new dioxin detection techniques and establish databases for samples such as blood, food, and river sediments. The center will also actively develop testing technologies for volatile organic compounds in water and heavy metal contamination in the optoelectronics industry—areas currently in high demand in Taiwan—and obtain EPA and CNLA international certifications.
In the medium- to long-term, the center aims to collaborate with academic institutions in Southeast Asia and Mainland China, regions increasingly focused on environmental pollution, to assist in ultra-trace dioxin/furan detection, thereby enhancing the university’s international visibility and reputation.
CNC Industry Elite Training Demonstration Base
This base focuses on smart machinery, improves the effectiveness of practical training, and is the only field in the country that integrates machine tool assembly, adjustment, cutting, quality control, and remote processing information monitoring. It adopts high-value parts manufacturing equipment in the industry to cultivate CNC practical talents.
