Specialization Program
Specialization Program is the focus of NTU’s recent curriculum reform. Each program consists of four to five courses, totaling 12 to 15 credits. Compared with a list-based course selection model, the Specialization Program emphasizes a clear curriculum framework that each course in the program is connected to each other. In this way, the program provides a clearer guidance for students to explore specific professional fields or engage in interdisciplinary studies, and enables them to build up more solid and diversified “academic competence” as foundation for their career development or graduate study.
NTU Specialization Program has three major goals. First of all, the curricula of departments are restructured and compared internationally to improve the quality of curriculum and reflect the spirit of in-depth learning. Secondly, after departments have established their specialization programs, they can open up their programs to students from other colleges and departments to promote interdisciplinary learning, break the barriers between colleges and departments, and foster the integration of campus teaching resources. Thirdly, the Specialization Program can become the cornerstone of bachelor’s programs. In the future, students can flexibly take courses of the specialization programs according to their personal ambitions, thus fulfilling NTU’s goal of cultivating interdisciplinary and innovative talents.
Explore the 280 specialization programs offered by 68 units at NTU!

International Mentorship Program
The NTU International Mentorship Program is the first summer internship program tailor-made for international degree-seeking students at National Taiwan University (NTU). The program aims to facilitate the linkage between Taiwan and the global talent market; as well as, to inspire the leaders of tomorrow.
NTU is a world-leading university and the largest and most comprehensive university in Taiwan. Its rich research capacity attracts close to 7,000 foreign students from 96 countries to study at NTU each year. Although the international employment performance of NTU graduates is the highest in Taiwan (51st in the world in terms of QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2022), international students at NTU also face similar challenges to most other international students in Taiwan. Due to language and cultural barriers and the lack of a local network, many of them end up seeking employment in other countries upon graduation.

Educational system
Taiwan’s education system is closer to the American school system. Universities are usually four-year programs, and graduate schools are divided into master’s programs (two years) and doctoral programs (usually three to five years). The curriculum is flexible, allowing students to take a variety of subjects as well as across departments.
Featured courses
|Department of Athletic Training and Health|
In addition to the basic common disciplines, there are also courses related to sports protection (including basic theory, medical-related, evaluation and rehabilitation, and sports medicine practice courses) and health and physical fitness (including basic theory, medical-related, special groups, and sports and health practice courses).
1. Athletic training- Cultivating Athletic Training Professionals Emphasize observing the content of sports training and analyzing the main causes of injuries from the perspective of sports science, thereby providing effective sports injury prevention and strengthening relevant special physical elements to reduce the chance of sports injuries.
2. Exercise and health promotion – Cultivating Healthy Fitness Professionals In view of the development trend of health promotion and social needs, for special groups (such as the elderly) and patients with chronic diseases (such as shoulder and neck pain, lower back pain), we analyze the promotion of health and physical fitness from the perspective of sports science, establish exercise prescriptions that meet the needs of each special group, and conduct in-depth research and application to reduce the waste of medical resources and achieve the effect of health promotion.
|Department of Sports Promotion|
It is the only department in the country with sports promotion as its development goal, and its educational goals are to cultivate “sports competition promotion and operation talents”, “leisure sports promotion and guidance talents” and “early childhood sports promotion and guidance talents”; With the aim of cultivating sports promotion professionals who possess both vision and the ability to take action.
|Department of Adapted Physical Education|
It is the first department in the country to cultivate adapted physical education professionals, and its main goal is to cultivate two types of professionals: “school adapted physical education” and “sports care”; Through the training of professionals, increase the participation and content of sports and recreational activities for individuals with physical and mental disabilities. By engaging in basic physical fitness and leisure activities, they can fully obtain opportunities to improve their physical abilities, promote health, and enhance their quality of life.
Department of Recreation and Leisure Industry Management|
The educational goal of this department is to cultivate talents who possess knowledge and skills in business management, are proficient in the leisure sports industry, and can integrate management, marketing planning, and news information communication across both fields. Introduction
The school was founded in August 1970, formerly known as “Tungnan Junior College of Technology”, and was approved to be restructured into “Tungnan Institute of Technology” on August 1, 2000, and was approved to change its name to “Tungnan University” on August 1, 2007.
In order to ensure the sustainable operation and development of the school, as well as the accurate implementation of the school affairs plan, various business and department adjustments have been made in response to the needs of sustainable development after the name change to the University of Science and Technology, and at the same time, in order to improve the effectiveness of teacher teaching and student learning, the practices and effectiveness indicators of the relevant plans for promoting the development of teaching excellence will be closely linked to the school’s mid-term school affairs development plan, and implement the school’s “students first, teaching paramount”, “Education tailored to individual aptitudes, with equal access to learning for all”The school’s philosophy comprehensively improves students’ learning ability and workplace employability, achieves successful career careers for our graduates, cultivates talents who make positive contributions to society and industry, and establishes the characteristics and reputation of the school.
International Exchange and Cooperation
In order to promote the operation of internationalization, our school has set up an international and cross-strait exchange center under the Research and Development Office in the 100th academic year, actively promoting the signing of cooperation agreements with overseas friend schools, and conducting student exchange and study, overseas high school strategic alliances and other activities. In recent years, due to the increasing vigor of international exchange activities, the frequency of international exchanges between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, and the increasing diversification of exchange forms, it is urgent to establish a dedicated unit for international affairs in order to further enhance the degree of “internationalization” of the university and integrate relevant resources within the university.
Therefore, in the 2014 academic year, the “International Affairs Office” was established, which was officially operated on February 1, 2015, to oversee the international affairs of the whole school, handle international and cross-strait activities, and provide comprehensive exchange and consulting services between overseas students and overseas scholars, thereby deepening the overall “internationalization” of the campus, enhancing the international vision of teachers and students, and strengthening the international competitiveness and popularity of the school. Our school attaches great importance to the cultivation of students’ international mobility, and has achieved good results in students’ overseas study and overseas internships. On August 1, 2023, the Comprehensive Business Group of the International Affairs Office of the Office was officially renamed the International and Cross-Strait Affairs Office.

Introduction
School Introduction
Our university is the only institution in Taiwan offering departments dedicated to traditional performing arts, acrobatics, and music, including: the Department of Peking Opera, the Department of Taiwanese Opera (Gezai Opera), the Department of Hakka Opera, the Department of Folk Arts and Skills, and the Department of Opera Music. Additionally, it houses the Department of Theater Arts, which focuses on Western stage performance and design, making a total of six departments.
The university also operates affiliated high school, junior high, and elementary (5th–6th grade) programs, forming the only 12-year integrated curriculum for cultivating talent in traditional opera. Moreover, it features practice and performance theaters and maintains a Peking Opera Troupe, a Variety Arts Troupe, and a Youth Theater Troupe to promote traditional performing arts.
Teaching quality and academic prestige
Integrate the university’s rich teaching and research resources, and apply for subsidies for teaching excellence programs to the Ministry of Science and Technology or the Ministry of Education to optimize the quality and quantity of teaching and research. Organize international master workshops or academic lectures, organize integrated performing arts seminars, and promote the editing and publication of the “Cross-disciplinary Performing Arts” book.
Organize the school’s unique “Lake and Mountain Art Festival” to gather high-quality talents from teachers and students, promote cross-border performances of dance, music, Chinese music and drama, and expand the performance energy and opportunities of our students.
International Exchange and Cooperation
Under the trend of globalization, “Only when the College of Theatre Arts reaches out to the world, will the world embrace the College”. Therefore, TCPA actively expands its international visibility, connects and cooperates with internationally renowned performing arts institutions, and strengthens exchanges with foreign sister schools to enhance exchanges in three aspects: students going abroad, foreign students coming to TCPA, and teachers exchange.

Highlights
industry-academia cooperation or school-employment integration system
TCPA has signed internship cooperation agreements with numerous theater troupes and companies. Each department has a structured internship curriculum: during the second semester of the fourth year, students participate in off-campus workplace internships for one semester, earning 9 credits. Alternatively, students may take internship courses while participating in related performances and exhibitions, accumulating hours to receive credits. This system bridges students with industry experience, facilitating smoother employment upon graduation.
Our school’s internship system is divided into two types of internships: A and B:
1. Category A Internship (Cumulative System)
It refers to participating in various internships arranged by the school during extracurricular hours, holidays, or winter and summer vacations, such as industry-academia cooperation, promotion, school performances, and other related professional internship performances. For this type of internship, the cumulative number of internship hours must reach 80 hours per credit, with a principle of 2 to 4 credits.
2. Category B Internship (Workplace Internship) (Semester System)
It refers to students participating in 5-9 credit internship courses throughout the semester and going to a single internship institution for 18 weeks of internship. 1 credit is 80 hours, a total of 400-720 hours.
Featured courses
TCPA is the only traditional performing arts college in the country that adopts a 12-year consistent system, which has deep traditional artistic characteristics and cultivates all kinds of talents who inherit the performing arts with cultural characteristics, so that they have a solid foundation in basic skills and performance skills.
The university implements the United Nations SDGs for sustainable education and development of urban and rural areas, embodies the aesthetics of contemporary performing arts with the inheritance and innovation of traditional Eastern art and Western theater art, connects various related industries in the industry, gathers the practical energy of alumni, and continues to carry out multi-original courses that cross traditional and contemporary.
Each professional department, according to its professional characteristics, at different stages of education, formulate clear professional ability indicators, and cooperate with the rigorous promotion evaluation mechanism to ensure its learning effectiveness. Through consistent practical learning, students can accumulate rich practical experience in performance and acquire the knowledge required for traditional opera and performing arts industries, which will become their unique advantages in future career development compared to students from other performing arts-related schools and departments.
Attached Student Internship Team In order to connect student learning with the current situation of the industry and implement the spirit of applying what we have learned, our school has three student internship teams. Among them, the Peking Opera Troupe is responsible for cultivating students from the Department of Peking Opera; the variety troupe is responsible for cultivating students from the Department of Folklore Skills; The Youth Theatre Company is responsible for nurturing students from the Department of Opera and Hakka Opera. Students from the Department of Opera Music and the Department of Theatre Arts have obtained a large number of internship opportunities to support various performances of the three troupes. The work of the three troupes usually includes a large number of commercial performances, and students can experience the real situation of the industry by interning in the group. During the internship process, if there are students with outstanding performance, they can sign a contract to retain them after the internship is completed to expand the lineup of the three groups.
