School History
In 1899, Taichung Normal School, the predecessor of the university, was founded at the Changhua Confucius Temple. In 1923, the institution was rebuilt at its current location, officially launching its century-long educational mission.
In 1945, the university entered the Normal School phase, establishing a teacher education philosophy that emphasized educators as role models for society. In 1960, it stepped into the Junior Teachers College phase, advancing the ideals of liberal and professional higher education.
In 1987, the institution evolved into a Teachers College, developing into a modern teaching and research institution dedicated to professional education. In 2005, it was elevated to a University of Education, integrating its century-old tradition of teacher education while pursuing transformation and growth. Guided by the vision of “Inheriting a Century of Teacher Education and Shaping the Future University of Education,” the university aspires to become an innovative and sustainable teacher education institution with smart learning at its core.

Regarding the care of new students entering the school and living, the seniors of the International and Overseas Chinese Student Association and the Student Affairs Office’s Life Counseling Section assist new students in handling admission-related matters. For dormitory matters, accommodation is guaranteed for Hong Kong, Macao, and overseas Chinese students.
At the beginning of each semester, the Student Affairs Office’s Life Counseling Section coordinates with various units to assist in the reception and counseling of Hong Kong, Macao, and overseas Chinese students. The Student Affairs Office also organizes fellowship activities for Hong Kong, Macao, and overseas Chinese students during the academic year to enhance the relationship between teachers and students and between students, making interactions more harmonious. The Life Counseling Section and the International Affairs Center of the Office of Research and Development assist in handling matters such as health insurance, medical insurance, residence applications, entry and exit procedures, and applications for scholarships and activity subsidies from the Overseas Community Affairs Council and the Ministry of Education.

Through cooperation with overseas sister schools, the school serves as the main teaching field, and the courses adopt a co-teaching method to strengthen students’ international exchange learning experience.

Introduction
The University of Taipei was officially established on August 1, 2013, as a comprehensive university formed by the merger of the Taipei Municipal University of Education and the Taipei Municipal University of Physical Education.
The University of Taipei integrates the excellent traditions of both schools and, based on the excellent tradition of teacher training, creates a “model university for teacher training.”
Based on the advantage of cultivating outstanding sports athletes, it is building a “major university for gold medal-winning athletes.”
Furthermore, based on the school’s expertise in humanities and arts, science education, sports and leisure, and the Taipei City Government’s future demand for talents in municipal management and development, it is being built into a “metropolitan-characteristic innovative university.”
In addition, with “teaching excellence, research advancement, internationalization, industry-academia cooperation, and community service” as the five major development axes, it actively promotes new directions in school development and becomes a well-known metropolitan university at home and abroad with scale and competitiveness.
International Exchange and Cooperation
The university has 159 sister schools spanning the Asia-Pacific, Europe, the United States, and the Middle East. In recent years, it has accumulated an annual quota of 348 exchange students to conduct exchange student programs, double degree programs, faculty visits, and joint international conferences with sister schools. Among the sister schools, 23 are ranked among the top 500 best universities in the world by QS or THE.
In line with the Taipei City Government’s policy, priority is given to exchanges with sister city schools in the city, such as Shanghai University and the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi.
Actively promote overseas off-site teaching at sister schools to promote students’ international mobility and expand their global vision.
Regularly select exchange students and organize overseas off-site teaching. Students can go to sister schools in Russia, Italy, France, the Czech Republic, Spain, Norway, the United States, Israel, Colombia, Turkey, Japan, Korea, China and other regions for exchanges to increase students’ opportunities to study internationally in different countries and expand their international horizons.
Transportation
The Bo-ai Campus is located in the core area of Taipei International Metropolis, with a superior geographical location and rich cultural and social resources. It is close to the National Library, the National Taiwan Museum, the National Concert Hall, the National Theater, and Nanhai Academy. It is not only a political and economic center, but also an academic and educational center, providing a vast learning area for teachers and students, with excellent advantages.
The Tianmu Campus is located in the Tianmu area in the northern suburbs of Taipei City, with convenient transportation and rich social resources. Art exhibitions and activities are relatively active, which is most conducive to the development and cultivation of art and leisure talents. At the same time, the Taipei City Government is actively promoting healthy cities, and the extension education courses established by the school are very popular in the community, which not only contributes to the community but also increases students’ ability to interact with others.
