It fosters a campus culture based on mutual respect and self-discipline, and cultivates outstanding students who combine professional competence with moral integrity, sincerity, diligence, organizational leadership, and problem-solving abilities. The University also seeks to infuse industry momentum into technical and vocational curricula, reducing the gap between teaching and practice, so that graduates become talents highly sought after by industry.
By building strong connections with the international community and industry, STU aims to create value through knowledge and skills and to achieve sustainable development, while balancing theory and practice. It is a practice-oriented university of science and technology that is student-centered, teaching-focused, practice-driven, grounded in industry–academia collaboration, and employment-oriented.
Teaching Quality
An excellent and safe campus environment with well-equipped facilities is provided, including a library housing 560,000 volumes of professional books. After being approved by the school’s Scholarship Review Committee, new students can receive a 50% reduction in tuition and miscellaneous fees for the first semester. Starting from the second semester, apply to the school affairs information system every semester. Those whose academic performance in the previous semester is above 80 points and whose class ranking is within 50% can receive a scholarship of 50% of tuition and miscellaneous fees. Those whose academic performance in the previous semester is above 90 points and whose class ranking is within 10% can receive a scholarship of up to 75% of tuition and miscellaneous fees.
Support and counseling system for international students
STU has established a dedicated support unit for international students, the “Overseas, Mainland Chinese, and Residential Counseling Section,” which provides airport pickup services for new students upon arrival in Taiwan, orientation briefings, and welcome activities. The unit also assists with academic and daily life counseling, accommodation arrangements, and organizes a variety of international and cultural events, including the Shu-Te International Badminton Cup.
In addition, the campus has an International Student Association, where senior students guide newcomers from their first year by introducing the campus environment, providing course selection assistance, and helping them adapt to life in Taiwan.
International Exchange and Cooperation
Establish sister school cooperative relationships with universities and colleges around the world. Exchange student programs are held every semester to select outstanding students to study in South Korea, Malaysia, the United States, the United Kingdom and other places to enhance their international literacy and vision. Introduction
Excellence in Research and Practice, Integration of Science and Humanities, and Leadership in Global Competitiveness.
— In the 2022 THE Impact Ranking, our university ranked 12th globally for SDG3, ranking 201-300 overall, and 6th in Taiwan.
— In the 2024 Global Views Magazine “Taiwan’s Best University Ranking,” we ranked 6th among medical universities and 14th among private universities.
In August 2024, Tzu Chi University and Tzu Chi University of Science and Technology merged. The new Tzu Chi University (TCU) will maintain a balanced development of vocational and higher education. Through the integration of departments, it will break the traditional learning boundaries between vocational and higher education, integrate the advantages of both, and become a Tzu Chi University that combines teaching and research with practice, integrates science and humanities, and possesses international competitiveness.
Pioneering Diverse Medical Anatomy Education and Silent Mentor Humanistic Ceremonies; Successfully Developing COVID-19 Dual-Antibody Detection Kits
Our university upholds the concepts of “gratitude, respect, and love,” and enlivens anatomical teaching with a humanistic approach, developing an altruistic paradigm of teaching based on “silent mentors.” We not only implement professionalism, but also cultivate students’ empathy for treating patients like family in the future. We use silent mentors to train clinical surgical skills, implement clinical operational capabilities, and supplement them with “endoscopic instrument training” provided after class, laying a solid foundation of ability and confidence to become excellent doctors.
In early 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic became a global pandemic, TCU, Academia Sinica, and Taipei Tzu Chi Hospital jointly developed the “COVID-19 dual-antibody detection reagent” in just two months. Starting in June, they successively applied for certification from the European Union, the US FDA, Indonesia, and other countries. At the end of July, they obtained import permission from the Indonesian Ministry of Health and are expected to export 30,000 doses to Indonesia. In addition, Tzu Chi University’s sister school, SRM University in India, is currently assisting in applying for Indian import permits, hoping to send the reagents to where they are needed as soon as possible.
The World’s First to Establish “Simulation-based Medical Humanities Course”
Independently developed humanistic integration courses and established the only “simulated medical center” in Taiwan, with a simulated operating room with eight teaching operating tables. The simulated surgery course combines TCU’s “gratitude, respect, and love” with a unique humanistic ceremony. To date, well-known universities and scholars from various fields around the world have visited, including: Indonesia, Queensland, National University of Singapore, University of Malaya and University of Science, Malaysia, St. Thomas University of the Philippines, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Fudan University, Sun Yat-sen University of Guangzhou, Lanzhou University, Peking University, Nanjing Medical University, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Oxford University, UCLA, UCSD, Johns Hopkins, Cornell, Columbia, Stanford and other well-known universities.
On April 23, 2009, the world-class media outlet The Wall Street Journal featured a front-page report by Ian Johnson, a Pulitzer Prize winner for International Reporting. This coverage marked a historic first for Taiwan’s medical education and stands as a proud achievement for the global Chinese community in the field of medical academia.
Taiwan’s only “Triple-Track Mentorship” school
Our university pioneered the ‘Triple-Track Mentorship System’ for student guidance. In addition to traditional academic faculty mentors and professional counseling centers, we have established the Tzu Cheng and Yi Teh Association to inspire students’ conscience and innate potential. This initiative aims to cultivate a humanistic spirit rooted in respect for life and social responsibility. The association is composed of dedicated Tzu Chi volunteers. For every 10 to 15 students, one ‘Tzu Cheng Father’ and two ‘Yi Teh Mothers’ are assigned. Once a month, these mentors travel from across the country to return to campus for ‘Family Gatherings.’ Furthermore, mentors from each family take turns returning to campus on weekdays to remain on standby for student support.
Using personal example to cultivate students’ life etiquette and moral ethics, accompany and care for students’ psychological and emotional problems, and play the role of caregiver, listener, and counselor. In addition to life counseling during school, our school also combines the social achievements and expertise of the Tzu Yi Hui to plan the “Tzu Yi Mentor Academy (Tzu Cheng Yi De Industry Mentor)” program to guide students in preparing before entering the workplace, provide students with learning business practices according to different professional fields, and divide them into seven groups: international development, social welfare, ecological field, biotechnology field, public service system, business management, and art aesthetics, etc., to organize exclusive courses and corporate experience camps to guide students’ career development and assist students in connecting with the workplace after graduation.
Diverse and frequent international exchange activities
Over the years, we have actively expanded international academic exchanges, established sister schools, overseas volunteer services, exchange students, international scholar visits and appointments, and other activities. We cooperate with the branch offices or liaison offices established by the “Tzu Chi Foundation” in five continents and 66 countries and regions around the world to provide our teachers and students with rich resources and provide more opportunities for international exchange.
Our school dormitory
Guaranteed accommodation for international students.
Priority is given to international students who stay in school during winter and summer vacations and the Spring Festival.
