Highlights
Specialization Program
Specialization Program is the focus of NTU’s recent curriculum reform. Each program consists of four to five courses, totaling 12 to 15 credits. Compared with a list-based course selection model, the Specialization Program emphasizes a clear curriculum framework that each course in the program is connected to each other. In this way, the program provides a clearer guidance for students to explore specific professional fields or engage in interdisciplinary studies, and enables them to build up more solid and diversified “academic competence” as foundation for their career development or graduate study.
NTU Specialization Program has three major goals. First of all, the curricula of departments are restructured and compared internationally to improve the quality of curriculum and reflect the spirit of in-depth learning. Secondly, after departments have established their specialization programs, they can open up their programs to students from other colleges and departments to promote interdisciplinary learning, break the barriers between colleges and departments, and foster the integration of campus teaching resources. Thirdly, the Specialization Program can become the cornerstone of bachelor’s programs. In the future, students can flexibly take courses of the specialization programs according to their personal ambitions, thus fulfilling NTU’s goal of cultivating interdisciplinary and innovative talents.

International Mentorship Program
The NTU International Mentorship Program is the first summer internship program tailor-made for international degree-seeking students at National Taiwan University (NTU). The program aims to facilitate the linkage between Taiwan and the global talent market; as well as, to inspire the leaders of tomorrow.
NTU is a world-leading university and the largest and most comprehensive university in Taiwan. Its rich research capacity attracts close to 7,000 foreign students from 96 countries to study at NTU each year. Although the international employment performance of NTU graduates is the highest in Taiwan (51st in the world in terms of QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2022), international students at NTU also face similar challenges to most other international students in Taiwan. Due to language and cultural barriers and the lack of a local network, many of them end up seeking employment in other countries upon graduation.

Introduction
School Introduction
Our university is the only institution in Taiwan offering departments dedicated to traditional performing arts, acrobatics, and music, including: the Department of Peking Opera, the Department of Taiwanese Opera (Gezai Opera), the Department of Hakka Opera, the Department of Folk Arts and Skills, and the Department of Opera Music. Additionally, it houses the Department of Theater Arts, which focuses on Western stage performance and design, making a total of six departments.
The university also operates affiliated high school, junior high, and elementary (5th–6th grade) programs, forming the only 12-year integrated curriculum for cultivating talent in traditional opera. Moreover, it features practice and performance theaters and maintains a Peking Opera Troupe, a Variety Arts Troupe, and a Youth Theater Troupe to promote traditional performing arts.
Teaching quality and academic prestige
Integrate the university’s rich teaching and research resources, and apply for subsidies for teaching excellence programs to the Ministry of Science and Technology or the Ministry of Education to optimize the quality and quantity of teaching and research. Organize international master workshops or academic lectures, organize integrated performing arts seminars, and promote the editing and publication of the “Cross-disciplinary Performing Arts” book.
Organize the school’s unique “Lake and Mountain Art Festival” to gather high-quality talents from teachers and students, promote cross-border performances of dance, music, Chinese music and drama, and expand the performance energy and opportunities of our students.
International Exchange and Cooperation
Under the trend of globalization, “Only when the College of Theatre Arts reaches out to the world, will the world embrace the College”. Therefore, TCPA actively expands its international visibility, connects and cooperates with internationally renowned performing arts institutions, and strengthens exchanges with foreign sister schools to enhance exchanges in three aspects: students going abroad, foreign students coming to TCPA, and teachers exchange.

Alternatively, students may take internship courses while participating in related performances and exhibitions, accumulating hours to receive credits. This system bridges students with industry experience, facilitating smoother employment upon graduation.
Our school’s internship system is divided into two types of internships: A and B:
1. Category A Internship (Cumulative System)
It refers to participating in various internships arranged by the school during extracurricular hours, holidays, or winter and summer vacations, such as industry-academia cooperation, promotion, school performances, and other related professional internship performances. For this type of internship, the cumulative number of internship hours must reach 80 hours per credit, with a principle of 2 to 4 credits.
2. Category B Internship (Workplace Internship) (Semester System)
It refers to students participating in 5-9 credit internship courses throughout the semester and going to a single internship institution for 18 weeks of internship. 1 credit is 80 hours, a total of 400-720 hours.
Featured courses
TCPA is the only traditional performing arts college in the country that adopts a 12-year consistent system, which has deep traditional artistic characteristics and cultivates all kinds of talents who inherit the performing arts with cultural characteristics, so that they have a solid foundation in basic skills and performance skills.
The university implements the United Nations SDGs for sustainable education and development of urban and rural areas, embodies the aesthetics of contemporary performing arts with the inheritance and innovation of traditional Eastern art and Western theater art, connects various related industries in the industry, gathers the practical energy of alumni, and continues to carry out multi-original courses that cross traditional and contemporary.
Each professional department, according to its professional characteristics, at different stages of education, formulate clear professional ability indicators, and cooperate with the rigorous promotion evaluation mechanism to ensure its learning effectiveness. Through consistent practical learning, students can accumulate rich practical experience in performance and acquire the knowledge required for traditional opera and performing arts industries, which will become their unique advantages in future career development compared to students from other performing arts-related schools and departments.
Attached Student Internship Team In order to connect student learning with the current situation of the industry and implement the spirit of applying what we have learned, our school has three student internship teams. Among them, the Peking Opera Troupe is responsible for cultivating students from the Department of Peking Opera; the variety troupe is responsible for cultivating students from the Department of Folklore Skills; The Youth Theatre Company is responsible for nurturing students from the Department of Opera and Hakka Opera. Students from the Department of Opera Music and the Department of Theatre Arts have obtained a large number of internship opportunities to support various performances of the three troupes. The work of the three troupes usually includes a large number of commercial performances, and students can experience the real situation of the industry by interning in the group. During the internship process, if there are students with outstanding performance, they can sign a contract to retain them after the internship is completed to expand the lineup of the three groups.

Introduction
International Certification
TTU has continuously received the Teaching Excellence Project and Higher Education Sprout Project from the Ministry of Education. All departments have passed the Ministry of Education’s department evaluation or IEET international engineering education certification. It has also won the “Outstanding Industry-Academia Cooperation Unit” award from the Chinese Institute of Engineers multiple times and has been recognized by the German Red Dot Design Award as one of the top ten design schools in the Asia-Pacific region.
International Exchange and Cooperation

In addition to exchange students, there are also dual degree programs and short-term cultural camps during winter and summer vacations to receive the latest international educational knowledge and cultivate the international perspective necessary for global citizens.
Dormitory Information and Transportation
Understanding that off-campus housing is too expensive for new international students, students can have priority to live in the university dormitory. TTU campus is located in the center of Taipei City, close to transportation stations, MRT, airport, and highways. The Fine Arts Museum, Riverside Park, and Yangmingshan National Park are nearby, and Shilin Night Market and Qingguang Market provide complete living functions.

Interdisciplinary Global Mobility
1. Through required English and Japanese courses, general education courses that broaden international perspectives, and well-structured practical programs and activities such as international volunteer services, international work camps, overseas internships, short-term study programs at partner universities, and dual-degree programs, the university cultivates global mobility as a core competency for its graduates. In recent years, the university has continued to establish and expand new academic exchanges with institutions in countries including Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Russia.
2. TTU encourages students to participate in international university social responsibility projects, overseas internships, English-taught international colleges, and expanded international exchange programs. These opportunities allow students to gain a deeper understanding of foreign languages and cultures, broaden their international perspectives, and further strengthen their global mobility.
3. In addition to its strengths in engineering, TTU has also demonstrated outstanding development in design and management. I believe that the curriculum of Taipei Tech emphasizes the connection between theory and practice. In addition to hiring top experts in the industry to co-teach, there are also sufficient off-campus internship resources. The professors in the department also encourage students to submit articles to domestic and international design competitions, related seminars, and journals, and take the works submitted by students seriously and give suggestions.
During my studies, I won many domestic and international awards such as “SIGGRAPH Asia 2021 – Best Online Demonstration Award” and “Vision Get Wild: Interdisciplinary Category – Honorable Mention.” Due to the solid skills training and excellent performance during my time at the school, I received job opportunities from many companies after graduation.

I believe that the industrial design at Taipei Tech is one of the best among universities in Taiwan, and the education provided is also in line with practice, which helps students find jobs quickly after graduation.
I got a good internship opportunity during my studies, interning at CRE8 DESIGN, responsible for product design matters. Because of my good performance, I was able to seamlessly connect after graduation and continue to work in the company to this day, and my professional and language skills have been well developed.

Because foreign companies need talents who are proficient in English and have an engineering background, they all come here admiringly and contact us to seek talents. It can be seen that the traditional engineering powerhouse brand of Taipei Tech is highly recognized by the industry, and graduates have a very obvious advantage in employment.

Highlights
The campus is located in a prime area with convenient living functions and numerous job opportunities
Located in one of the most prosperous areas of Taipei City, at the intersection of two MRT lines, the main campus is located next to the main road in the city, close to Zhongxiao Xinsheng MRT Station, Huashan Creative Park, Syntrend Creative Park, and Guanghua International Electronic Plaza. The transportation is convenient, the information is developed, the living functions are complete, and there are many job opportunities. Under the dual influence of technology and cultural creation, countless talents have been cultivated in various fields of the industry.
Emphasis on practical teaching, implementation of the internship system, and the most popular graduates with enterprises
In order to seamlessly connect students with enterprises, NTUT has created a number of characteristic laboratories with equipment synchronized with the industry, laying the foundation for students’ technology through practical teaching. At the same time, it took the lead in the country to stipulate that students must intern in the industry for at least 2 months before graduation, so that students are familiar with the operation mode of the industry before graduation and have sufficient practical experience, which is deeply welcomed by the industry.
Abundant alumni resources in all walks of life, a good reputation as a traditional powerhouse, and success in adding points to resumes
NTUT is the oldest university of science and technology, and has cultivated countless industrial and commercial talents. 10% of the founders, directors, and CEOs of small and medium-sized enterprises are alumni of NTUT. Therefore, the school often invites well-known alumni from all walks of life to return to the school to share their success stories. In addition to being able to often hear the experience sharing of alumni during school, it is also easy to get the promotion of alumni in various industries after graduation.
Internationalized campus, cultivating international mobility
NTUT has about 12,000 students, of which more than 1,000 international students come from more than 50 different countries around the world. It is an internationalized learning environment. During their studies, students are also encouraged to study abroad as exchange students at nearly 300 sister schools in various countries to broaden their international horizons. It is hoped that our students will not only have professional and practical skills, but also have peer competitiveness in the country. It is also hoped that they can be trained to become international professionals who can work with professionals from different cultural backgrounds and countries in multinational companies or enterprises.

Excellence in People’s Livelihood
Emphasizing the development of life sciences is a unique feature of our school. For a long time, our school has actively invested in the research and promotion of the founding purpose of life science knowledge, focusing on the six major needs of people’s livelihood, and taking the educational goal of making life “ethical, artistic, scientific, and productive.” We offer integrated courses that combine theory and practice to strengthen students’ planning, evaluation, and execution abilities, and further enhance the employment competitiveness of graduates. At the same time, in order to extend the scope of education, our school has established the Changhua Ershui Township Village Home Economics Extension Experimental Center, kindergartens, and elderly life and health research centers to strengthen the promotion of community education, preschool education, and lifelong learning universities, in order to implement the founding intention of “caring for the national economy and people’s livelihood.”
Leading in Design
Our school has achieved fruitful teaching results, and each of the five colleges has its own development characteristics. Among them, the College of Design has repeatedly won various indicative international design awards, such as the German iF, red dot, American IDEA, and Japan Nagoya Fashion Contest. In the 2007 National University Design Department Ranking Survey by “Global Views,” it was ranked first in the design practice category and was hailed as “Taiwan’s Harvard”; in the same year, it was also rated by the American “Business Week” as one of the world’s top 60 best design colleges;
In 2009, the Graduate Institute of Industrial Product Design was selected as one of the top 30 best design departments in the world; in 2011, our school won the Red Dot Design Award, ranking fifth among the best universities in the Asia-Pacific region in terms of cumulative rankings, and in 2012, it rose to third place. On May 2, 2012, the Economic Daily News reported on the German Red Dot Design Award and announced the world university regional rankings for the first time, with our school ranking first among private schools in Taiwan.
In addition, our school’s student works have also been invited to participate in the Milan International Furniture Fair in Italy, Tokyo Design Week in Japan, Beijing China International Fashion Week, Madrid Fashion Week in Spain, Milan International Design Exhibition in Italy, Spanish International Product Exhibition, German Rhine Design Festival, Saint-Étienne Design Biennale in France, Belgian Design Biennale, Parsons School of Design Faculty and Student Joint Exhibition in New York, USA, and Annecy Film Festival in France. The excellent competition performance and international exhibitions of the College of Design fully demonstrate the strength of our school in the international design professional field, and can be regarded as a model of domestic design teaching, laying a good foundation for our school to move towards the development vision of a high-quality practical teaching university in the Asia-Pacific region.

International Integration
Our school deeply understands the importance of internationalizing teaching and globalizing talents. Over the years, we have actively promoted various international exchanges and cooperation with foreign schools, and have achieved considerable results.
In addition, we also create a rich foreign language learning environment and resources to improve language learning effectiveness, so that students have the ability to connect with the world. Our school pioneered the precedent of domestic students going abroad to pursue dual degrees in 1994, and actively promoted academic exchanges with internationally renowned universities. Sister schools are located in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, Finland, Denmark, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and mainland China.
For example, the College of Design cooperates with the School of Architecture and Planning and the Media Lab of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States, the Graduate Institute of Urban Planning and Design of Harvard University in the United States, the Department of Architecture of the Tokyo Institute of Technology in Japan, the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in the United Kingdom, the London College of Fashion in the United Kingdom, and the Bournemouth Arts University to organize faculty and student “international workshops” to expand students’ international horizons. The College of Management has established international exchange programs and IMBA all-English courses in response to the trends of the times, combining the resources of international sister schools to provide students with diverse learning channels, in order to shape the school’s characteristic of students having international mobility.
On-the-Job Learning
Our school is characterized by practical teaching. Each department plans practical learning directions and main axes according to its professional characteristics, so that students have practical experience and literacy during their studies. For example, the College of Management and the College of Business and Information develop an on-the-job flexible learning system, seeking cooperation with the industry to introduce richer resources and technologies, expand students’ on-the-job flexible learning opportunities, and encourage teachers to establish industry-university cooperation with enterprises. The College of Human Ecology is committed to promoting professional internships in order to shorten the gap between theory and practice, increase practical experience, and complete the qualifications for relevant professional certifications.
In addition, in order to cultivate future interdisciplinary talents, our school actively integrates school resources and offers interdisciplinary programs oriented towards practice and employment, combining different professional fields, with the aim of cultivating all-round professional talents, enhancing workplace competitiveness, and establishing students’ differentiated unique competitive advantages, in order to implement the positioning of our school as a practical teaching university and strengthen the innovative and practical teaching characteristics of our school.

Macau
Tan began to come into contact with music at the age of 15. After graduating from middle school, he hoped to continue developing music, so he resolutely went to Taiwan to study at the Department of Music of NTUE.
After arriving in Taiwan, he hoped to support himself and insisted on earning his own living expenses. As a freshman, he found that the school cafeteria lacked fruit, so he set up a stall outside the campus restaurant to sell fruit. Tan jokingly calls himself a “fruit man”, taking care of everything from purchasing, inspecting, transporting, and cutting fruit.
As a sophomore, Tan and a friend jointly invested in opening a juice shop on campus to expand the scale. The business became better and better, and he earned NT$200,000 half a year later, earning the first pot of gold in his life.
As a junior, he began to think about the future development, sold the juice shop, and first focused on music development and studies. Until his senior year, he noticed that urban residents in Taipei were busier, and some people may not have time to buy fruit after get off work on weekdays, which triggered him to conceive of a “door-to-door” fruit service.
He hopes to “maximize” the fruit and vegetable business, so he continues to develop into the agricultural industry and establish Shuguo Home (Shuguo Bar), which mainly sells fresh fruits, vegetables, and snacks (dried fruits, nuts) online. The agricultural products are contracted with local farmers. After receiving customer orders, the subscription-based business model is used to deliver fresh fruits, vegetables, and healthy snacks to customers’ homes.
Tan plans to expand Shuguo Bar to the mainland, Macau, and even Southeast Asian markets after the business in Taiwan is stable to expand its business territory.
