Introduction
Kinmen is located between Taiwan and mainland China and has long served as an important bridge for cross-strait exchanges. It is also one of the earliest regions in Taiwan to become internationalized. More than 100 years ago, Kinmen was already a major source of overseas Chinese emigrants. It is estimated that there are over 400,000 Kinmen overseas Chinese living in Southeast Asia. Many outstanding overseas community leaders possess strong political and economic influence and are deeply committed to supporting education in their hometown, frequently making generous donations to local schools.
To this day, contributions from overseas Chinese can still be seen throughout Kinmen. These distinguished overseas leaders form a strong foundation supporting the successful development of National Quemoy University. In appreciation of their support, the university has established generous scholarships and financial aid for overseas Chinese students. In the first year of enrollment, students may receive a full scholarship with no conditions required, including a full refund of tuition and miscellaneous fees. Overseas Chinese students whose ancestral roots are in Kinmen may also apply to the Kinmen County Government for additional tuition subsidies.
Each year, the Kinmen County Government further provides all students with transportation and book vouchers, as well as study allowances for undergraduate students. The eligibility requirements and benefits are highly favorable. Kinmen is only a 30-minute ferry ride from the Xiamen metropolitan area in mainland China. Flights from Kinmen to Taipei, Taichung, Kaohsiung, Chiayi, and Tainan take approximately 50 minutes, offering convenient and efficient transportation connections.

Nowadays, students around the world are facing multi-country challenges and threats of globalization. With its better academic resources and strongest supports from overseas, NQU is devoted to playing the role of the core center and vital portal for academic, cultural, and educational exchanges.
Come and join the NQU and grasp the unique opportunity to thrive!

From the Kinmen Bridge to other major construction projects, professionals from this department have provided essential technical consultation and support.
Technology: The Departments of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science and Information Engineering nurture talent for high-tech industries, with teaching emphases on artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), big data, and robotics to meet the demands of future markets.
Public Livelihood: The Department of Food Science plays a key behind-the-scenes role in upgrading Kinmen Kaoliang Liquor and local livelihood industries. With strong capabilities in food processing, testing, and extraction technologies, as well as specialized courses in liquor evaluation and brewing, the department is distinguished by its highly specialized focus.
Research areas within the College of Science and Engineering are wide-ranging. Notably distinctive local research themes include the utilization of island biological resources, ecological and environmental sustainability engineering, green energy technology and applications, and spatial information system applications. These efforts play a long-term and far-reaching role in supporting local infrastructure development and industrial growth.
2. College of Humanities and Social Sciences
Including the following programs: Department of Applied English, Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Department of Urban Planning and Landscape, Department of Ocean and Border Management, Department of International and Mainland China Affairs, Department of Architecture, Master’s Program in Minnan (Southern Fujian) Culture, Master’s Program in Language and Humanities Creative Applications, and the Interdisciplinary Doctoral Program in Sustainable Innovation for Island Industries of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
As a key hometown of overseas Chinese deeply rooted in the hearts of global Chinese communities, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences is dedicated to preserving Minnan culture, participating in local urban planning, safeguarding border regions, and cultivating international affairs professionals. With “Culture, City, and International Affairs” as its three core pillars, the college develops a wide range of related academic programs.
Culture: Through the Master’s Program in Minnan Culture, the university has become a major center for Minnan culture studies in Taiwan, with an irreplaceable uniqueness. The Departments of Applied English and Chinese Language and Literature equip students with global mobility while also helping overseas Chinese descendants preserve their Chinese language proficiency.
City: The unique context of military heritage sites, historical character, and surrounding marine ecology allows the Departments of Architecture and Urban Planning and Landscape to offer teaching that is more inclusive and interdisciplinary than that of other universities. These programs infuse urban architecture and landscape design with a balanced perspective that integrates both tradition and innovation.
International Affairs: Owing to Kinmen’s distinctive and strategic geographic location, the Departments of International and Mainland China Affairs and Ocean and Border Management stand out among universities in Taiwan. In recent years, these programs have been accelerating efforts to cultivate top-tier talent in cross-strait relations and border management for Taiwan.
3. College of Management
Including: Department of Business Administration, Department of Tourism Management, Department of Sports and Leisure, Department of Industrial Engineering and Management, Master Program with Direct Admission to Ph. D. Program in Strategy and Development of Cross-Border Industries
Peter Drucker, a master of Western management, once said that management issues are multi-faceted. Management is not just common sense, nor is it just a rule of thumb, but a set of organized knowledge.
The College of Management of Kinmen University systematically classifies teaching fields, starting from a solid foundation and practice of business management, and then echoing the characteristics of the outlying island industry to deepen the cultivation of tourism and sports management talents. After being upgraded to a university, it has become more closely aligned with the talent needs of industrial engineering management. The Department of Business Administration emphasizes both theory and practice, cultivating students’ ability to solve problems and innovate. The Department of Industrial Engineering and Management uses AI and smart manufacturing knowledge to lead students to meet the future of automated management. Tourism and recreation are important economic sources for Kinmen’s industry. Kinmen University also closely follows the industry’s heartbeat and cultivates management talents in the fields of tourism, sports and leisure for the country. The granite geology of Kinmen Taiwu Mountain and various rich natural and cultural landscapes are the real-life classrooms for the Department of Tourism to step out of textbooks. The wine-themed courses offered due to Kinmen’s wine production are also one of the characteristics of the Department of Tourism.
4. College of Health and Nursing
Including: Department of Nursing, Department of Long-Term Care, Department of Social Work
The College of Health and Nursing was established 10 years ago and is the youngest college in the school. It is particularly closely integrated with domestic long-term care policies and health care as a trend, undertaking the task of cultivating health care and social work talents for outlying islands and assisting Kinmen in expanding the health care industry. In order to educate students to have health care, global vision and professional literacy, the College of Health and Nursing emphasizes service professionalism and skills. Every graduate has the ability to directly enter the workplace after four years of training. The entire college emphasizes 4 core teaching concepts:
Integration of learning and application: The Department of Nursing, Department of Long-Term Care, and Department of Social Work all directly face patients, the elderly, or individual cases, and need to develop the professional ability to directly serve people in education.
Cross-border learning: Promote students to apply for international and mainland exchange student opportunities. Students have the opportunity to go to Xiamen University, Sichuan University, Jilin University and other key universities on the other side for exchange internships.
Deepening: Through professional equipment, construct a teaching environment, plan a large number of internship hours and counseling for license examinations, and strengthen care skills.
Incubating original energy: In addition to providing personal care and services, the four years of study at the College of Health and Nursing can also be invested in innovation and entrepreneurship in the medical and health field, such as combining long-term care technology or assistive devices and other product development.

Introduction
Penghu is made of fish, water, and wind
The people of Penghu are all fish
All water
All wind
–Excerpt from the poet Du Ye’s “Penghu’s Dream Opens Its Wings”
Penghu consists of many islands, with a small population, yet it boasts some of the most beautiful oceans, beaches, and unique cultural charms. Our university, located here, is a small but exquisite national university of science and technology. It comprises three colleges—College of Talent and Management, College of Tourism and Leisure, and College of Marine Resources and Engineering—with a total of 12 departments and 5 graduate institutes. It is the only university of technology in Taiwan situated on an outlying island. In 2018, the university joined RETI (the World Island Universities Alliance), aiming to cultivate professionals with expertise in marine fisheries, tourism and leisure, as well as technology and management. For students who love nature, it is truly an opportunity not to be missed.
