1. Tainan University of Technology Wins Gold Award in the Spatial Design Category at the 2025 Sen Award

The 2025 Sen Award National College and University Competition in Spatial Design and Furniture Design concluded successfully. Centered on the theme “Circular ∞ Future,” the competition emphasized sustainable development and harmonious coexistence with nature. It attracted more than 500 submissions from design-related departments across Taiwan, covering both spatial design and furniture design categories, and showcased students’ innovative visions and practical approaches to future living environments.

Among the many outstanding entries, students Huang Wei-Hsiang and Chiang Yen-Pu from the Department of Interior Design at Tainan University of Technology stood out with their project “Vertical Panorama・Forest Arrival — A Mixed-Use Vertical Sports Park,” earning the Gold Award in the Spatial Design category.

The project is located in the center of Taipei City and addresses critical urban issues such as the urban heat island effect and WELL healthy building standards. Through a vertical spatial configuration, the design transforms green spaces into a three-dimensional system, integrating fitness facilities, cultural and artistic spaces, and healthy dining functions. The project creates three distinct zones—active, artistic, and tranquil—within a green and aesthetically enhanced environment.

The design incorporates vertical greenery and water features, while stairways integrated into the façade connect different levels to encourage physical activity. The rooftop is transformed into an ecological farm, complemented by a rainwater harvesting system to support plant irrigation. This forward-looking proposal for sustainable living received unanimous praise from the jury.

Faculty advisor Professor Chen Nien-Tzu stated that he has long focused on sustainable design in architecture and interior spaces, continuously incorporating the latest trends in low-carbon and health-oriented design into his teaching. He encourages students to challenge conventions and innovate, developing design solutions that respond to social needs and human well-being. He also expressed gratitude to the judges and the organizers—Mao Sen Wood Industry Co., Ltd. and the Chinese Global Architectural Scholars Exchange Association—for providing students with a national-level platform to showcase their talents.

Department Chair Huang Chiao-Yi likewise expressed his appreciation and pride, noting that this award follows several recent achievements, including five shortlisted projects at the New Generation Design Exhibition, the Silver Award at the A+ Cultural Heritage Creative Awards, and recognition as Best School. These accomplishments demonstrate the department’s long-term commitment to sustainability-focused design education. In recent years, the department has actively strengthened curriculum planning and faculty development aligned with the SDGs, nurturing over one hundred spatial design professionals with strong sustainability awareness each year. The department looks forward to contributing further to industry advancement and Taiwan’s sustainable development in the future.

2. TUT Ranks First Nationwide for 14 Consecutive Years with 79 Finalists at the 2024 Golden Pin Design Award – Young Designers’ Exhibition

At the 2024 Golden Pin Design Award – Young Designers’ Exhibition, Tainan University of Technology (TUT) achieved an outstanding milestone with 79 shortlisted works, ranking first nationwide for the 14th consecutive year.

This year’s competition attracted 4,974 submissions from 116 departments across 55 universities nationwide. After a rigorous preliminary review, 608 works were selected as finalists and awarded the Golden Pin Young Designers’ Nominee Award. Ultimately, 134 exceptional works stood out in the final round, among which the Golden Pin Young Designers’ Best Design of the Year Award represents the highest recognition by the jury.

According to the award results announced on May 26, 2024, TUT received a total of 17 awards. Notably, the Department of Interior Design won the Best Design of the Year Award in the Spatial Design category with the project “Urban Pastoral: Rules and Transformations of a New Residential Revolution.” In addition, the Department of Multimedia Animation won a Design Award in the Digital Image Design category with “Sweet Loop,” the Department of Product Design received a Design Award in the Craft Design category with “Jade Refinement,” and the Department of Visual Communication Design earned a Design Award in the Industry–Academia Collaboration category with “Liú Study Diary.”

The award-winning spatial design project “Urban Pastoral: Rules and Transformations of a New Residential Revolution,” supervised by Professor Chang Tsai-Juan, was created by students Wu Meng-Jia and Hung Chia-Man. Selected from 27 shortlisted teams nationwide, the project received the highest honor in the Spatial Design category. The design proposes a modular, reconfigurable mobile housing system that responds to contemporary lifestyles characterized by frequent mobility and changing residential needs.

President Yang Cheng-Hung noted that the Golden Pin Young Designers’ Award is an annual flagship event in Taiwan’s design education sector, showcasing graduating students’ works from design-related departments nationwide while providing industry professionals with opportunities to identify emerging talent. He emphasized the competition’s strict and impartial evaluation process, in which all identifying information—including student names, advisors, and institutions—is removed during the judging phase. TUT’s achievement of ranking first nationwide for 14 consecutive years demonstrates the consistently high caliber of its students’ design capabilities.

As a teaching-oriented university of science and technology, Tainan University of Technology is the only technological university in Taiwan with a College of Arts, with 23 departments directly related to cultural and creative industries. Its strong foundation in the humanities and arts, combined with interdisciplinary integration across colleges, has naturally shaped a distinctive creative focus, positioning TUT as one of Taiwan’s most representative universities in cultural and creative education. The University also actively incorporates industry professionals into practice-oriented courses, promotes summer-term programs, and enables students to begin industry internships earlier in their senior year. Furthermore, TUT regularly invites internationally renowned scholars and experts to lecture and teach on campus, helping students stay attuned to global trends and enhance their international mobility.

President Yang further remarked that Taiwan’s industrial development has evolved from an emphasis on technology to management, and now increasingly recognizes that high-quality design significantly enhances product value. While design plays a crucial role in everyday life—impacting convenience, safety, efficiency, and well-being—it is often underestimated. As Taiwanese society continues to move toward greater refinement and sophistication, the design field will be presented with new and expanded opportunities for future development.

3. Li Yifeng, a rising star in the beauty department of TUT, won the double championship of world body painting

Li Yifeng, a student from the Department of Beauty and Styling Design at TUT in Taiwan, made a splash in the “Creative Makeup” category of the World Bodypainting Festival 2024 held in Austria on the 20th and won the world championship! and won the championship in the “Drag Queen Makeup” project on the 21st. The double championship in hand is a testament to Taiwan’s makeup capabilities that should not be underestimated, and through this world-class important event, Taiwan has once again been seen by the world!

Through the Austrian World Body Painting Competition, Li Yifeng of TUT showed his super strength in self-makeup, hair and self-performance. Whether it was performing on stage or telling his creative philosophy in front of the judges, he always showed confidence and professionalism, and finally won the championship with an absolute advantage in the “Creative Makeup” project, with only 1 point difference from the second, third, fourth, and fifth places, while Li Yifeng was far ahead of the second place with a difference of 8 points, winning the unanimous praise and favor of the on-site judges. Later, in the “Drag Queen Makeup” project, he once again showed his unique and irreplaceable style and confidence, winning the second gold medal with his original and exquisite artistic masterpieces, and the unique “maple” charm and charm he showed when he received the award twice were unparalleled, conquering the audience.

According to Lin Shiyin, head of the school’s beauty department, Li Yifeng entered the department last year (2023) through the technical advancement channel. Upon enrollment, he immediately demonstrated exceptional makeup skills and rich physical performance abilities. As soon as the school started in September 2023, he made an appearance at the school’s October celebration event. In order to celebrate the opening of the department’s fashion gallery, the Department of Beauty invited Li Yifeng to do her own makeup and perform on the catwalk. In the first semester of his freshman year, he planned to participate in international competitions and actively applied for opportunities for higher education scholarships on campus and opportunities to train athletes in the department.

Due to his excellent academic and professional skills, he was successfully awarded scholarships and training qualifications, and then devoted himself to competition training. Furthermore, Li Yifeng has developed a strong interest in makeup since junior high school. Although he had not yet grasped the essence of it at the time, and was repeatedly looked at by men’s makeup, he was never afraid. With the full support of his mother, he chose to enter the beauty department of Shude Family Business and started the road to professional makeup. Li Yifeng let him re-understand himself through the makeup process and results, and also fell in love with him who worked hard, confident and dared to show himself. He thanked his mother for her support, calling her the strongest backing.

As for the leader of the expedition and one of the instructors, Shen Shizhan said with a smile that Yifeng’s original personality is a child who is deeply confident and believes that positive thinking will achieve everything. It made the whole team laugh, and after winning the award, he vowed: “I want to win another gold medal in today’s drag queen project!” In the end, his words were completely transformed into reality and glory. Shen Shizhan also said that Yifeng is not only the only boy among the six participating students in the entire team, but also the only one in this world-class competition who has not found a foreign model. Because he believes that his body represents authentic Taiwanese, he wants to bring his body to tell everyone, we are very proud, we are from Taiwan.

Li Yifeng won the world championship this time, allowing Taiwan to be seen on the international stage again. The host of the award ceremony excitedly emphasized that this was a victory from a distant land. Li Yifeng, who is only 19 years old this year, has made the Taiwanese flag fly on the stage of world-renowned makeup competitions with his excellent professional skills. It is foreseeable that this is just the beginning of Li Yifeng, the Department of Beauty and Styling Design of Nanying University, and the strength of Taiwan’s makeup – Lin Shiyin, the head of the department, said with confidence: “We are going to rock the Makeup World.”

When I first started working in overseas student affairs a few years ago, I often encountered an older gentleman in the office, who looked significantly older than the average university student. I was quietly curious about what kind of experiences this student had and why he would give up his original life to study in Taiwan after working for many years. It wasn’t until recently that I had the opportunity to learn about his story of pursuing his dream.

This student, everyone calls him Brother Zhi-Fa, is quiet, calm, and reserved. He was born in 1966 in Sibu, a small town in Borneo, Malaysia. When he was in the second grade of elementary school, he saw the doodles of a classmate with mild intellectual disabilities and was deeply attracted to them, which made him fascinated by art. In the second grade of junior high school, because he didn’t like studying, except for passing art, his grades in other subjects were terrible, so he dropped out of school, left the campus, and became an apprentice in an advertising agency to learn a craft. At that time, the boss of the advertising agency, Zhang Yanjin, thought he drew well, so he encouraged him to study art abroad. To study abroad, he had to complete high school first, so Boss Zhang persuaded him to return to campus by hook or by crook. At this time, he also obtained the promise from his family to support his dream of studying art abroad in the future.

Unexpectedly, after graduating from high school, his father retired, and there was not enough financial support, which made his dream of studying abroad a mirage. He gave up on himself for a long time. Later, he focused on his work and slowly forgot his youthful dream.

More than twenty years after entering society, Brother Zhi-Fa was often arranged to assist in making props or designing sets in the stage plays of the Christian church. Because he started creating again, he rekindled the dream that had been buried in his heart for many years.

For him, who grew up listening to Taiwanese music, watching Taiwanese movies, and reading Taiwanese novels, he had infinite yearning for Taiwan. After repeated consideration and with the support of his family, he came to the Department of Fine Arts of CJCU in Taiwan at the age of 48 to become an older student. The dream failed when he graduated from high school, but coming to Taiwan in September 2014 finally realized the dream that had been in his heart for more than thirty years.

After entering CJCU, he began to explore various fields of art, and later focused on ceramic creation of three-dimensional works. Compared with the young students in the class, he cherished the opportunity to study even more. After enrolling, he was among the top students in his class, and he received the CJCU Overseas Student Scholarship many times, and he also won recognition in national art awards in Taiwan, such as: Honorable Mention in the [Western Media Category] of the Tainan Art Exhibition in 2015, Honorable Mention in the [Western Media Category] of the Tainan Art Exhibition in 2016, First Place in the [Three-Dimensional Modeling Category] of the Tainan Art Exhibition in 2017, and First Prize in the [Second Category] of the Pingtung Art Exhibition in 2018. The following is the relevant news report about the award at that time: Pingtung Art Exhibition Awards Ceremony Tomorrow – Chen Yimiao and Zhang Zhifa Win Pingtung Awards – Life – Liberty Times Electronic News (ltn.com.tw)

His creation extends from his own experience to the care for the society. Whether it is the award-winning work or the graduation project, it is telling a social issue: child sexual abuse, which causes the distortion of young minds and the difficulties of future growth. These experiences are not fictional, but real personal experiences. Scenes of unbearable pain are transformed and released after the completion of the work. By boldly presenting his experiences in the eyes of others, he is no longer threatened by such fear, and he reconciles with the past that he felt was dirty and unbearable, forgets the past, and bravely moves forward towards his goal. He hopes that through his creation, parents will be alerted to protect and awaken their children, and not let them be destroyed.

After graduating, Brother Zhi-Fa returned to Borneo and transferred to Brunei, which is adjacent to Malaysia, for development. Brunei has relatively few art resources. In 2020, he founded the first ceramic studio in Brunei – Shanchi Yiren Studio, and opened art courses to let the public in Brunei know about ceramics and experience ceramics. At that time, Lee Hsien-chang, the representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Brunei, also attended the opening ceremony with the office team to congratulate him.

Brother Zhi-Fa brought the art expertise he learned in Taiwan back to his hometown. The seeds of art education that were sown in Taiwan were spread overseas. I believe that through his persistence and efforts, the influence of art will continue.

After graduating from secondary school in Hong Kong, Zhuo Shan was thinking about where to continue her studies in the future. At that time, she heard that Taiwan’s higher education was professional, diverse and of high quality, and the tuition fees were more economical compared with European and American countries. Considering her interests and future development, she finally chose to study in the Department of Shipping and Transportation Management at CJCU and spent four years of study life in Taiwan.

During her four years at CJCU, Zhuo Shan felt that she had broadened her horizons and met friends from all over the world on campus. In addition to the professional knowledge of the Department of Shipping and Transportation Management, she also cultivated the ability to interact, communicate and cooperate with others through club participation. These nutrients allowed her to apply what she had learned after graduation. After graduating from university, Zhuo Shan returned to Hong Kong to work in the aviation industry and worked as a ground staff member at China Airlines. In 2020, due to the epidemic, the aviation and tourism industries were extremely unstable. Considering the overall environmental factors, she decided to end her ground staff work in the aviation industry and switch to another career.

Currently, she is engaged in dance training at SDM Jazz Ballet Academy. The academy’s operation is mainly to cultivate children to have a positive attitude and positive thinking, to be able to practice what they preach, and to shine in the environment they are in. Her job title is the Academy Operations Director, responsible for promoting and selling the company’s products and responsible for the daily operations of the school. Her experience in school has made her more comfortable at work.

Zhuo Shan is happy to be involved in public affairs. In addition to her job, she is currently the President of the CJCU Hong Kong Alumni Association, and voluntarily assists CJCU in Hong Kong’s enrollment promotion and alumni liaison work, hoping to let more Hong Kong friends understand the wonderful experiences she had at CJCU in the past, and help more students who intend to study in Taiwan.

CJCU is a young university. In the early days, the number of overseas students was not large, but in the past five years, the number of overseas students has grown rapidly. Most of the graduates are young and are using the expertise they learned at CJCU to work hard for their future. The following is an introduction to Liang Xinglin, one of the Hong Kong alumni.

After graduating from secondary school, Xinglin worked for a while. At that time, she had never engaged in mass communication-related work, but because she was interested in related fields, she decided to leave the workplace temporarily and devote herself to learning, so she came to the Department of Mass Communication at CJCU in Taiwan to study.

After graduating from CJCU, Xinglin returned to Hong Kong to work in the film industry. Her job title is production assistant (production team). The content is the pre-production of the film, such as: finding scenes, finding sponsors, and after finding the scenes, communicating the use of the scenes with various groups, and serving as a communication window for borrowing scene units to provide assistance, that is, the external window for the work team, and during the filming period, she follows the scene to provide on-site assistance.

Due to overall environmental factors, the film industry has been deeply affected, and the source of cases is unstable. At that time, she also engaged in project work for event planning. Later, due to the impact of the epidemic, she had to temporarily end her work in this field.

Currently, she is engaged in market management and promotion at BSL Containers Company. Her job title is project coordinator. The content is to manage all social networking sites, website management and market promotion.

After reading for four years, Xinglin felt that her horizons had been broadened, she had met friends from all over the world, and she had definitely increased her professional knowledge for what she wanted to do.

I am Wu Cuiqing from Macau. When I was in secondary school, I was interested in hospital-related professions. When I saw that Taiwan had a medical management profession, I felt it was very special, so I decided to leave Macau and come to the Department of Healthcare Administration at CJCU in Taiwan.

During my four years of university life here, I learned that the profession of medical management lies in emphasizing ethics and implementing health service planning and problem-solving from the perspective of public policy and innovative thinking. Through courses, I began to understand issues related to medical insurance, medical institution management, and health care quality.

In addition to academic studies, during my four years of university, I am very grateful to have the opportunity to meet many friends from different countries, such as: Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Taiwan, Malaysia, Taiwan, etc.; in academics, whether it is classmates or teachers, they all provide a lot of help. I remember when I first arrived in Taiwan, it was difficult to communicate in language. Fortunately, my classmates did not find it troublesome and repeatedly explained it to me slowly. I would like to thank my class teacher in particular, because of her, I felt the warmth of a second home in Taiwan; thank you to the teachers in the Overseas Student Affairs Admission Service Office for helping me solve problems during these four years. Thank you to CJCU for making me feel warm even when I am alone in Taiwan.

After graduating from CJCU, I returned to Macau and worked in a community facility service center. The content is mainly to serve the elderly, such as: holding activities for the elderly to entertain, improve their hand and foot mobility, prevent muscle degeneration, and follow up on relevant work documents.

Currently, I am an activity coordinator at the Nan District Siwai Yikang Center, which belongs to the Macau General Neighborhood Union. My job is to organize activities and follow up on daily documents.

I would like to share with my younger students that it is not easy to leave your hometown and live in a strange place. You must constantly strengthen your mentality, and you must take care of your daily life alone. There are constant changes every day, and the things you encounter are both good and bad, and you must face them yourself. If you decide to study abroad, you must be prepared to face anything that happens every day, but I believe that with hard work, persistence and an open mind, you can get through everything smoothly.

I am Jiang Xinyi, a graduate of the Department of Fine Arts of CJCU, from Sibu, Malaysia.

During my studies at CJCU, I was very happy to have experienced teachers to guide me. I started with basic sketching, and then tried watercolor, oil painting, ceramics and sculpture. During the final creation period, I chose to major in oil painting. During my studies, I also learned a lot about art history and aesthetics, which have become indispensable nutrients for my artistic creation. These are very rare and precious for me, who have never had the opportunity and resources to receive formal art education in Malaysia.

In the second semester of my freshman year, my family experienced a serious economic crisis, so I was able to continue my studies from my sophomore year with the help of relatives’ loans. Before the incident, I had always wanted to study abroad in the United States for a year, but I cancelled it due to economic pressure at the time. Because I was very obsessed with learning the art teaching methods of other countries, I resolutely chose the French class in the Department of Translation and Interpretation of CJCU! Because I heard that tuition and living expenses in France are very cheap, haha! Thank you to CJCU for not charging extra tuition fees for courses in other departments!!! So, I continued to take French classes until I graduated from my senior year. During this period, I also took good care of my studies in the Department of Fine Arts and my part-time job.

After graduation, the situation at home improved. After careful consideration, I decided to study oil painting in France in more depth! Because the language score requirements for admission to French schools are relatively high (DELF B2: it is said to be the graduation threshold for general French departments in Taiwan), I still enrolled in French courses in the first year I went to France. I didn’t expect that the admission schedule for the master’s degree in French art schools was very tight. In order not to miss the registration date in the same year, I managed to pass the language exam within four months of going to France, starting from only knowing simple grammar and having no practical French-speaking environment. During this period, I lost a lot of hair, and I finally knew why the teachers who returned from studying in France didn’t have much hair…haha!

After passing the French proficiency test, I realized during the process of interviewing various schools that most of the French art schools hardly paint anymore, but focus more on contemporary art, such as: photography, performance art, etc. By chance, I met a friend who was preparing to take the entrance exam for the Academy of Illustration, and together we successfully passed the entrance exam to a private art school in Paris, Ecole de Condé Paris. What I learned here is different from what I learned at CJCU. I learned illustration, animation and comics.

In 2020, the epidemic struck. Because my family was worried, I finally decided to suspend my studies in France and return to Malaysia. During this period, I interned at a publishing house in Malaysia. After that, I used the art foundation I built at CJCU and what I learned in Paris to develop my illustration profession and become a freelance illustrator, mainly cooperating with Malaysia, Australia, mainland China and Taiwan on illustration and design-related products. In 2021, my work won the Bronze Award at the world-renowned illustration competition JIA Illustration Award. Welcome to appreciate my creations:

Even though I have achieved some success, I still want to continue learning. One night, I had a sudden idea: if the UK master’s degree system is only one year, then why not go to the UK to study for a master’s degree! Because I have visited several art galleries in London, I think British illustration is more mature. So I started applying for a master’s degree in illustration in the UK. After several considerations, I decided to study for a master’s degree in children’s book illustration at Anglia Ruskin University. I am currently fully committed to learning, and I hope that after completing my studies, I can return to Taiwan to teach and give back what I have learned and experienced to Taiwan, which cultivated me in the first place!

Looking back now, during my studies at CJCU, whether in academics or in life, it was a key stepping stone for me to move forward! At that time, I left my parents and familiar environment and came to Taiwan alone, facing many challenges and difficulties, which made me able to think independently and solve problems. In academics, I enjoyed learning about the field of art that I was interested in, and it also made me clearer about the work and life plan I wanted to do in the future! During this experience at CJCU, I became much more independent and confident than before. This is an irreplaceable experience!

In addition, Taiwan is very tolerant of cultural differences and very friendly to foreigners. Therefore, even if there are some differences, they will be accepted and understood. I think this is one of the important factors why I have so many good memories here! I met very good teachers, friends and sisters who handle international affairs here. Some of them gave me a lot of warmth and companionship, and some of them introduced me to many jobs and solved my economic difficulties at the time. They are all benefactors in my life.

I really think that the cost performance of universities in Taiwan is really high. Compared with the educational resources I have obtained, the tuition fees are really not expensive compared to universities in Malaysia, and as long as you study hard, there are also many opportunities to apply for scholarships! It can cover living expenses, and sometimes even tuition fees can be helped. The learning experience here is really very good. For the younger students who want to study abroad, I want to say: Choosing Taiwan is really great!

Chang Jung Christian University is a young university. In the early days, the number of overseas students was not large, but in the past five years, the number of overseas students has grown rapidly. Most of the graduates are young and are using the expertise they learned at CJCU to work hard for their future.

The following is an introduction to Qiu Xinni, one of the Malaysian alumni.

Xinni graduated from the Department of Translation and Interpretation of CJCU. The teachers she came into contact with during her studies had rich industry experience and were very professional. In addition to teaching, the teachers also provided career counseling to the students. After graduation, Xinni worked in Taiwan for two years. Her first job was in marketing at a translation company, and later she switched to a company related to software development as a social media marketer.

Because her parents are getting older and her original career plan was to work in Taiwan after graduation to gain experience, and then return to Malaysia for development.

Therefore, Xinni has now returned to Malaysia and set up a translation company with her friends. The company’s main business is to provide customers with one-stop services such as translation, subtitles, verbatim transcripts, video editing, and social media operations.

Xinni started to come into contact with translation projects during her studies. In the process, she felt the unfair treatment suffered by translators, such as: being deducted wages for no reason, not being valued for their expertise, and being owed wages for a long time.
This experience made Xinni have the idea of starting a business when she was a senior. She hopes that the company she sets up will become a bridge between customers and translators, ensuring the quality of translation while improving customers’ understanding and respect for translation, and protecting the rights and interests of translators.

Xinni has experienced the process of being employed by a company and starting her own business. She feels that being employed by a company does not require worrying about the company’s operations, customers and employees, etc. The most important thing is to do her job well, but starting a business requires solving many problems. There will be different situations and challenges every day, and she needs to keep learning. She must continue to improve her knowledge in all aspects, including management, marketing, and translation.

Xinni and her friends have established “Infinite Digital Translation Co., Ltd.”, which has locations in both Taiwan and Malaysia. It mainly provides services such as text translation, subtitles, verbatim transcripts, video editing, social media operations, and copywriting. The customer base mainly comes from Taiwan, Malaysia, Hong Kong and China. (Company introduction website)

Xinni was led to CJCU simply because of her passion for translation. During her four years at CJCU, in addition to meeting a group of very good friends, she gradually mastered the professional skills related to translation. Through the activities held in the school and the exchange opportunities provided, she learned how to solve problems and communicate with people of different nationalities. Xinni told us, “All of this has benefited me a lot after graduation, because my current job requires me to communicate with customers of different nationalities and solve customers’ problems.” This sentence clearly illustrates her gains and growth at CJCU.

I am Huang Yixiong, from Indonesia, and a graduate of the Department of Translation and Interpretation of CJCU. At first, I had no concept of the Department of Translation and Interpretation at all. At first, I just wanted to learn Chinese in Taiwan, so I simply entered the Department of Translation and Interpretation!

The four years of academic life have benefited me a lot. Not only has my ability to switch between the two languages improved by leaps and bounds, but what has made me grow more is that because I came to the Department of Translation and Interpretation of CJCU, I was able to come into contact with the predecessors and colleagues in the translation industry in Taiwan and come into contact with the actual translation industry and apply what I have learned!

The translation industry is bittersweet. Do you want to say that there is a future and a vision? Yes! But you must become the top and famous one, otherwise it is difficult to find out whether you are a translator in the current Taiwanese society!

Therefore, a wide range of social circles plays a major role. It is recommended that younger students come into contact with more positive people and social enterprise members. You really don’t have to be afraid of not finding a job after graduation, and you don’t have to be afraid of not finding translation projects. Simply put, you have to take that step and get to know more people outside the school, and don’t just limit yourself to the circle of classmates of the same age!

In this era, the circle of people determines the future. If you want to become a certain kind of person, come into contact with those people more!

During the study stage, it is very hard to be a foreigner. The languages and cultures are very different. I once suffered from interpersonal problems of being excluded by classmates. I once wanted to give up my studies, but kind people will always have kind benefactors to encourage them! When I was under so much pressure, Professor Xiong Binshan of the Department of Translation and Interpretation always gave me strength, and religious beliefs accompanied me through four years of academic life, so I had the strength to get out of this pressure.

I am very clear that foreigners have no connections and no background in a foreign country, but step by step, I have become the “interpreter brother” who has completed my dream. Thank you for the willpower trained during my study period!

During the study stage, everything has to be done by myself. Even if there is no other support, and I have encountered times when I was not accepted, this is not a complaint, but no matter who is right or wrong in interpersonal interactions, these experiences will inevitably make me grow a lot. I have entered the Department of Translation and Interpretation! I must show it to myself that after graduation, I am the mobile interpreter brother who can truly become warm and soulful! After graduation, I entered the human resources agency industry and became a bridge between employers and migrant workers. Communication skills and the ability to handle things in real time are all required. Thank you to the company for recognizing my expertise and being willing to assist me in applying for a work permit so that I can continue to reside in Taiwan TW.

In addition, everyone in the 21st century needs to have a side business. I also partnered with Chen Zihao, a senior who also graduated from CJCU, to start a business and enter the international market to benefit more society. We plan to popularize the corporate spirit and culture of cherishing souls in the Southeast Asian market. The main nature is the big health and environmental protection industry. We look forward to younger students and alumni becoming our partners!

At the same time, I am also a special conference interpreter for a US non-governmental organization. I have also created a cloud immigration special examination translation studio, mainly to teach Indonesian to those who aspire to work as immigration officers.

My name is Goldhie Kharismatha Mahonny, I am a 2019 graduate from CJCU from the Department of Computer-Aided Media Design. I come from Indonesia. While studying at CJCU, I found out that my teachers have mastery of their expertise and are very caring about my studies and well-being. I gained experiences meeting and interacting with lots of people, not in my usual social circle. Clubs in CJCU also provided opportunities for me to hone my design skills.

After graduating, I returned to Indonesia to find a job. My first job application is to a big-name Indonesian IT infrastructure company, sending my portfolio built during my studies in CJCU, and immediately got accepted for an interview. After a series of rigorous testing, I got accepted into the company despite being a fresh graduate.

My role in the company is as a graphic designer. I am tasked to make printed designs, such as invitations and promotion materials for multiple projects and brands. My audiences range from private salespeople to C-Level executives, usually ranging from private gatherings of tens to huge events or promotions that invite thousands. My biggest involvement is as the main designer in the yearly gathering of C-Level executives across Indonesia.

The hard skills and soft skills I learnt during college proved useful, as I am trusted with big projects and other responsibilities. The various subjects I learnt from CJCU and the self-learning habit I got from classes also helps me in learning new skills needed for my work.

Due to the pandemic, my job description has changed. Digital design has become more in demand, and I was transferred to the Digital Design Team. However, I was able to adapt to the workflow and crunch faster than the other designers because of the work habits and attitude I developed during college.

Having worked for 2 years, I am very grateful to have studied and graduated from CJCU. The skills I learned, and the habits and attitude I developed during college have all helped me in my work-life and in my social relationships.

I am Chang Chih-Yang from Myanmar, and I graduated from the Department of Shipping and Transportation Management at Chang Jung Christian University (CJCU). Initially, I was assigned to CJCU from the Overseas Compatriot Students Preparatory Program. My original dream was to study in a culinary-related field. In the end, I was assigned to the Department of Shipping and Transportation Management at CJCU, but I do not regret it because a career in shipping has also been one of my dreams since I was a child. The reason I chose to study in Taiwan was that I personally felt that the level of universities in Myanmar was not as good as in Taiwan, so I chose to study in Taiwan. On the other hand, my family wanted us to learn to be independent and make friends from all over the world, which would be of great help in the future and also give us more job options.

The relevant experiences during my university years have indeed helped my career development. During my sophomore year, I served as the president of the Overseas Compatriot Student Association, which expanded my social circle and greatly helped with the leadership, organization, communication, and coordination skills needed for future work. In my junior year, I obtained certifications in aviation computer reservations and airline ticketing. In the second semester of my junior year, the department’s teachers successively posted internship opportunities on the department’s website, providing everyone with the chance to compete for internships. Before the internships, the department’s teachers arranged mock interviews to strengthen our interview skills. In my senior year, I secured a one-year internship at EVA Air (counter group). The Department of Shipping and Transportation Management at CJCU has many teachers with rich industry experience and connections. Each teacher has different expertise. In addition to general courses, teachers sometimes take students on field trips to related companies.

The first few months of my senior year internship were relatively stressful, as it was my first time doing aviation-related work. What I learned was how to respond to passengers. By actually encountering foreign passengers, I also improved my practical foreign language skills. Finally, I clearly understood that if I encountered a problem, I should first calmly think about the source of the problem and then deal with the problem further.

I believe that to be a professional ground staff, one must have keen observation skills because if even a small detail is wrong, the passenger’s luggage or the passenger themselves may end up on a flight that is not their intended destination.

After graduation, I found a company that acts as an agent for air cargo (Luxembourg Air Cargo) and worked as an airline cargo agent, learning some cargo knowledge from it. For example, import/export operations and documents, checking cargo palletizing status, supervising cargo loading and unloading and aircraft-side operations, and contacting various units.

Currently, the political situation in Myanmar is very unstable. I recommend that younger students come to Taiwan to train and learn various knowledge that will be of great help to them in the future. Expand your international horizons and connections.

Student Care and Activities

The Office of International Affairs’ International Student and Scholar Affairs Division holds orientation sessions before the start of each semester, providing information on living in Taiwan and promoting on-campus resources. The Teaching and Learning Development Center holds tutoring programs (including online courses and in-person teaching) every semester to assist students in adapting to their studies and life, and implements early warning and protection measures to create a safe and warm learning environment, enabling every student to fully develop their talents.

In addition, the university has a Chinese Language Center that offers “Special Chinese Classes” for students who need to strengthen their Chinese proficiency, assisting international students with language problems in their studies and life, adapting to the school, and integrating into the living environment.

University-Wide Introductory Data Science Courses

In response to the rapid and complex changes in the world, the demand for interdisciplinary talent in various industries has significantly increased. NCKU pioneered an interdisciplinary introductory course at the university level, starting from the undergraduate level, hoping to equip students from all colleges with basic concepts of data science, treating data science as a cornerstone and bridge for future interdisciplinary fields.

The curriculum is planned with three practice-oriented courses per semester: “Introduction to Python Programming,” “Probability and Data Introduction,” and “Mathematical Foundations of Intelligent Computing,” enabling students from all fields to “learn the tools and combine them with their original professional fields, thereby innovating applications.”

Career Coaching Program, Campus Recruitment

The “Career Coaching Program” has been established for 14 years, introducing senior executives from 30 companies each year as coaches. Each coach is assigned approximately 10 students. During the 5-month program, in addition to arranging at least 5 formal teaching interactions, students can also communicate with coaches through Line messages and meals, seeking advice on workplace and life challenges, understanding the industry environment, and planning their career development direction early.

The “Job Fair” is held every March, setting up over 340 corporate booths and providing over 14,000 job opportunities. In addition, 172 international companies provide job vacancies for international students. Company information sessions are held in the spring and autumn to allow students to understand industry trends early.

Cooperative Program with Purdue University

3+1+1 A total of 5 years for a Bachelor’s + Master’s dual degree:

NCKU students study at the university for 3 years and then study at Purdue for 2 years. Those who complete the graduation requirements can obtain both a NCKU Bachelor’s degree and a Purdue University Master’s degree.

“Undergraduate Research Day” Activities

NCKU actively guides students to explore diverse, forward-looking, and high-quality academic content, interdisciplinary learning, and research. Before the start of the semester, it holds a “Laboratory/Research Room Visit and Special Research Poster Exhibition” for freshmen to seniors, opening up national, university, and departmental research rooms with unique characteristics for visits. It also invites iGEM student teams and Formula Racing student teams to share their research experiences, participation in international competitions, and the joy of overcoming pressure and breaking through difficulties, stimulating students’ interest in academic research and opening the path to research exploration.

Flexible Teaching, Innovative 15+3 Interdisciplinary Practice Courses

In recent years, NCKU has been committed to promoting interdisciplinary practice courses. The “15+3 Interdisciplinary Practice Courses” promote interdisciplinary collaboration among teachers through flexible course arrangements, such as “Design Thinking,” “Image Narrative,” and “Strategic Communication,” inspiring more course combinations and new teaching methods. It also makes course selection more flexible for students, increasing their professional foundation skills. With diverse course planning, students can experience “customized” courses and a learner-centered teaching philosophy.
