Industry-Academia Collaboration

NKUST has long been linked to regional industries in the fields of engineering and electrical engineering, including precision machinery, civil engineering, chemical materials, molds, electrical engineering, and electronics, with more than 50 years of industrial foundation in these specialized fields.

Innovation and Entrepreneurship

As the first entrepreneurial university in the country, NKUST integrates academic and administrative resources to establish an innovative and entrepreneurial ecosystem, aiming to cultivate students with innovation, practical skills, interdisciplinary skills, and employability.

Marine Technology

With the development of “marine industry” and the cultivation of “marine talents” as the main axis, the university has a complete foundation for “marine technology” industry-academia research and development, and shoulders the important responsibility of cultivating marine industry talents. It is linked to the development of Kaohsiung Port and is also the only vocational institution in the country that cultivates marine professionals.

Exclusive Scholarship

NKUST has established the NKUST Scholarship Program for Outstanding Overseas Chinese Students and Students from Hong Kong and Macao in order to attract outstanding overseas Chinese students and students from Hong Kong and Macao to study at the university. Charter President of the Lions Clubs International Foundation for the Far East and Southeast Asia

Hong Kong

Born in Hong Kong in 1951, his family moved to Laos, and in 1969 he came to Kaohsiung Vocational School (Overseas Chinese Student Class) to study printing, and graduated first in his class; after graduation, he returned to Laos, and because he was from a printing background, he was given the opportunity to serve as the director of the packaging plant of the largest tobacco factory in Laos;

In 1975, Laos fell, and he settled in Taiwan as a Laotian refugee with nothing; by chance, he entered the catering service industry, and has worked hard for 39 years with the spirit of lifelong learning. His business includes: Taiwan’s largest wedding chain enterprise ~ Denwell Happiness Organization, Taichung Lin Hotel, Kaohsiung Lin Huang Palace, etc.

Director Lin is committed to promoting “learning organizations” and “service teams” so that the enterprise can not only create every happy wedding, but also set an example to promote social sublimation.

In addition to working hard in his career, he is also dedicated to public welfare. In 1983, he fulfilled his childhood dream and joined the West Taipei Lions Club for 35 years. His service has spread all over the world. From 2016-2018, he served as an International Director of Lions Clubs International, with only 34 international directors worldwide each year. He is now the Charter President of the Lions Clubs International Foundation for the Far East and Southeast Asia.

Featured Colleges (Maritime, Marine Commerce)

NKUST has comprehensive marine professional education, its own dedicated wharf, and the nation’s first ” Off-shore Wind Industry Marine Engineering Elite Training Base”, and is the only national vocational school in the country that cultivates marine professionals. Graduates’ career development directions include marine transportation, marine defense, marine engineering, marine leisure and other industries.

[Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering]

This department is the only Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering in vocational colleges in the country. It combines the development of Kaohsiung harbor city and the shipbuilding and marine engineering industry. It has industrial characteristics. Taiwan International Shipbuilding Corporation, the largest in Taiwan, is also located in Kaohsiung. In addition,Kaohsiung accounts for 80% of Taiwan’s total yacht production value, ranking 7th globally and serving as the largest yacht manufacturing hub in Asia. Furthermore, 70% of the world’s yacht hardware and fittings are exported from the Port of Kaohsiung. With such a flourishing shipbuilding and marine industry, we have long cultivated top-tier talent to meet national demands. Our graduates are well-prepared for diverse career paths, including International Welding Engineers, Naval Engineers, Yacht Engineers, Electromechanical Control Engineers, and Structural Engineers.

[Department of Marine Leisure Management]

The courses in this department include exercise physiology, marine ecology, water safety and lifesaving, sailing, scuba diving, etc. We also offer specialized programs in Marine Affairs, Blue Intelligent Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and International Marine Business. By focusing on marine leisure and incorporating global regulations, e-commerce, and IoT applications, we prepare students for diverse career paths.

Beyond public service, our graduates find success in international marine leisure enterprises, sports clubs, yachting industries, hotel management, tourism, theme parks, and the health and wellness industry.”

[Department of Shipping Technology]

Our primary mission is to cultivate exceptional Merchant Marine captains and deck officers, maritime education and research professionals, and management personnel for shipping companies and maritime enterprises. Our core curriculum includes seamanship, celestial navigation, survival craft and rescue boat operations, chart application, the maritime labour convention (MLC), and on-board bridge internship. We assist students in obtaining professional certifications, ensuring a seamless transition into the global shipping and maritime industry upon graduation.

Industry-Academia Cooperation and Integration of Learning and Employment

The Department of Engineering integrates the expertise of teachers, and has cooperated with as many as hundreds of companies. There are also many outstanding alumni in the industry, who are a strong backing for younger students. Students are very outstanding whether they continue their studies or perform in the workplace. The types of work are wide, diverse and well-paid.
