Introduction
International Certification
I. NIU is a comprehensive university with the Colleges of Bioresources, Engineering, Humanities and Management, and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. All departments have passed the evaluation. The departments of the Colleges of Engineering and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science have passed the international accreditation (EAC) of the Institute of Engineering Education Taiwan (IEET). Graduates can use their NIU qualifications to participate in the APEC Engineer examination in Washington Accord (WA) member countries (such as the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, etc.), giving them international competitiveness.
II. In addition to offering interdisciplinary programs such as biotechnology and health care, green technology, and leisure industry, the four colleges also cultivate interdisciplinary talents with vertically integrated R technology plans. At the same time, with solid language teaching and rich practical training, at NIU you can learn rich knowledge and skills through courses that emphasize both theory and practice.
International Exchange and Cooperation
The school provides various subsidies for studying abroad to encourage students to bravely pursue their dreams and about 70 sister universities with substantial exchanges, including
– Promoting 3+2 and 1+1 degree cooperation with the University of Michigan-Dearborn,
– Degree cooperation between the College of Humanities and Management of NIU and the School of Economics and Management of Fuzhou University
– In 2020, an educational cooperation agreement was signed with SHMS Swiss Hotel Management School, including 3+1, 2+1+1, and 3+2 programs to provide overseas internships and dual degree programs for the Department of Leisure Industry and Health Promotion
– There are also short-term courses, overseas volunteer experiences, service learning and other rich overseas study activities.
Guidance mechanism
A “Foreign Student Supply Station” is set up to provide international students with an exclusive space, and enthusiastic “Overseas Chinese Student Association” seniors and a “helping overseas Chinese students” guidance mechanism, coupled with various cultural exchange activities, create a rich and fulfilling campus life for students.
Alumni

秦煒耀
Former full-time research assistant at National Taiwan University Hospital
Hong Kong
Qin Weiyao, an alumnus of the Department of Biotechnology and Animal Science, worked in the NIU library as a sophomore and founded the “Extreme Paragliding” club. As a junior, he worked as a lifeguard at the famous Yilan International Children’s Folklore Folkgame Festival. He is good at time management and participates in various activities.
After graduation, he worked as a full-time research assistant at National Taiwan University Hospital, and then became a graduate student at the Institute of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong, specializing in cancer treatment.

Highlights
Overseas Student Scholarship
- New students admitted in the top two choices can receive NT$15,000 per semester for the first academic year.
- Students who rank in the top 20% of their class in the previous semester can receive up to NT$5,000 per month.
Five-year program
NIU has established a bachelor’s + master’s degree program, which allows students to apply for a bachelor’s and master’s degree in five years.
Industry-Academia Cooperation
— Professor Chen Hua-wei of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Engineering combines theory and application to lead a research team to develop hot spring agricultural specialty masks. Using Jiaoxi hot spring as a base, he added Yilan local agricultural specialties kumquat, white fungus, bitter gourd and squalene to create four “Praise Spring” masks, creating masks suitable for women’s physiological cycles.
— The low-temperature catalytic reaction material developed by the team can achieve a 95% reaction effect at 200 oC, which greatly saves fuel costs by at least 50%. Currently, there is a large demand in the international market, and no team has yet introduced it into the actual field.
It can be introduced into the electronics and chemical industries, greatly reducing factory operating costs.
— Using natural water-retaining biological colloids as seed coating materials can improve the seedling rate of seed sowing, and commercial agricultural drones can also use bionic seeds for aerial sowing operations to achieve environmental friendliness, so as to provide a basis for future aerial sowing of bionic seed granulation and expand the application of new agricultural technologies.
— Using transparent wood with excellent thermal insulation, actively matching solar power generation windows and photocatalysts, so that each building not only saves energy, but also turns the building into a production and air purification plant.
— For the pig farming industry, which is the most concerned in our country’s agriculture, we provide intelligent environmental monitoring, and use artificial intelligence technology to add to the pig farm’s video system, using the Chunghwa Telecom IoT platform to provide 24-hour continuous monitoring of the health of pigs. This system can reduce the labor burden of farmers, provide visualized monitoring data, and improve pig quality and yield.
