Founded in 1922, National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) is a century-old institution with a strong academic tradition. Since the liberalization of teacher education in 1994, NTNU has transformed into a comprehensive university, now comprising 10 colleges and 67 departments and institutes, with over 10,000 students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs.
NTNU operates across three campuses, Heping, Gongguan, and Linkou, covering approximately 137 hectares. Alongside strengths in the humanities, sciences, social sciences, and management, the University is internationally recognized for excellence in education, arts, music, and sports.
NTNU has a strong and dynamic research environment, with six research centers at the university level, twenty at the college level, and seventeen at the department level. Among these, four have been recognized as Featured Research Centers under Taiwan’s Higher Education Sprout Project.
A leader in internationalization and bilingual education, NTNU offers more than 900 English-taught courses and has been recognized by the Ministry of Education as a Bilingual Benchmark University. Building on its humanistic foundation, NTNU continues to integrate technology and innovation, advancing toward a globally renowned university with both classical heritage and modern vision.
Inter-school Academic Exchange and Resource Sharing
Since 2016, NTNU has partnered with National Taiwan University and National Taiwan University of Science and Technology to form the NTU System, creating a cross-university learning environment. Upon enrollment, students gain access to the academic resources of three leading universities, including cross-registration for courses, mutual credit recognition, shared use of libraries, sports facilities, and learning spaces, as well as participation in a wide range of international and cultural exchange activities. With a combined community of nearly 60,000 faculty members and students, the NTU System offers an extensive academic and professional network, enabling students to broaden their learning opportunities and future career prospects within a single degree program.
International Exchange and Cooperation
Our University has established partnerships with over 400 prestigious universities worldwide, spanning all five continents, offering opportunities such as cross-national dual degree programs, student exchanges, visiting student programs, and short-term overseas language, cultural, and internship experiences. In 2018, NTNU was recommended by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) Visiting Officers, becoming the first teacher education institution in Taiwan authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Teacher Certification. Graduates who complete this program are eligible to teach at over 5,000 IB schools worldwide, opening doors to international teaching careers.
